And The Pressure For Perfect Bodies

Julianne Hough sat down with The Beauty Bean to participate in their series “On Real Beauty”, where she answered questions about beauty, body image, and what advice she’d give to her younger self.

TBB: When do you feel most beautiful?
JH: I feel the most beautiful when I, well – obviously there are two different answers to that. The first one would be that I love to get glammed up and you know feel that my hair looks great, and my skin looks good and when my legs are shaved and I’m wearing high heels – and all that stuff. But also when I’m around my family and stuff, and they’re just fun to be around and there’s just a certain glow you have when you’re with your loved ones.

TBB: How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
JH: Oh it sucks a$$ – I’m telling you that! Oh, sorry! But it does. It’s hard. You know, as a person you’re always saying “oh, it doesn’t bother me. I’m going to be who I am and that’s all that matters.”


TBB: What do you do to be in your best shape?

JH: When I don’t dance – or I get bored with that – I’ll go on a hike or swim or the Tracy Anderson Method – I’ve done that a couple time and it’s really great because it’s kinda like dancing, and it’s different every time so it’s fun.


TBB: If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
JH: Less is always more! Less is always more! Less makeup, don’t try to be too matchy-matchy – I was always matchy-matchy! – and try to get in a habit of being active. I always was active but I think now, I always thought I would always be skinny and I could eat whatever I wanted and then this year I was like, “holy crap!” this is so different. ……………

TBB: Who is your beauty role model?
JH: I love seeing women who are so comfortable in their skin that they don’t wear a lot of makeup and they just are beautiful. Like Julia Roberts – you can just see how happy and fresh and beautiful they are from within.

Ouch. Looks like Lauren Conrad’s new reality show has been canned before the first episode has even aired. Lauren’s new show was going to feature her as she worked on her new fashion line, but MTV has decided to pass – and Lauren is none too happy.

MTV’s head of programming explained the decision:

“We decided not to go ahead with the show. She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that’s also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances.”

It wasn’t anything personal:

We love her! We would love her on our network,” Janollari says. “It was a great attempt but it just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for us now.”

Lauren Conrad fired back at MTV in a statement:

“We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result. MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life. We agreed going into the project that this show would be an aspirational one, focusing on my career and my goals and not my personal relationships. We delivered the show that we sold and are sorry MTV didn’t feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it.”

Despite being nominated for just about every award out there, Jesse Eisenberg is convinced this is all just a once-in-lifetime thing. The “Social Network” star said:

“I’ve never been involved in a movie that’s received this kind of attention. I’ve never played a role that’s received this kind of attention… I imagine this will be the only time in my life where this will happen.

He’s finding the whole process to be a little strange:

“The endless promotion (has) been a bit jarring… There are actually some people who do this every year. To me it just seems like a really taxing process.
“You lose a sense of perspective. You lose a sense of needing to be creative. You lose a sense of what actual life is like. And you lose a sense of your own abilities… And one day, I can tell my children about how silly it was.”

He’s pretty young, and assuming that he sticks with acting, I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more of him during awards season each year.

“My best friends come on tour with me, I’m so close with my band so that’s fantastic. It’s the best job, you get to be with who you love and be with your friends all the time. There’s no complaints. I’m working 24 hours a day and that’s probably the one thing people don’t know about me, that I’m a workaholic and I can’t stop. But I love what I do so it’s always fun.”

I forgot how much energy a 17-year-old has. If only we could bottle that up!!

Taylor Momsen also told BANG Showbiz that she doesn’t consider herself a role model. We’ve heard that one before:

“I don’t want to consider myself to be a role model, that’s too much pressure for anyone to take on. I didn’t get into this industry to become a role model.
“I got into it very young and because I love music I still have that drive. I’m not happy if I’m not making music, it’s a simple as that. It’s a need. So if I inspire people who need to do what I do and want to have the same drive to work really hard then that’s great but don’t try to be me, be yourself. That’s the only foundation in this industry because it’s so critical and difficult.”

The Pretty Reckless album, ‘Light Me Up’, will release this Monday.

Gisele Bundchen is feeling the heat this afternoon. During a press conference for her new organic skincare line, the model said that she never uses sunscreen / sun tan lotion because it’s “poison”.

I cannot put this poison on my skin. I do not use anything synthetic.”

Funny because Gisele Bundchen took money to appear in Nivea’s skincare campaign a few years back. Guess the poison doesn’t hurt when you’re getting the big bucks to endorse it.

Cancer experts have spoken up about Gisele’s assumptions. Us Magazine reports:

“Sunscreen prevents damage to the skin and is of fundamental importance for the prevention of cancer. This is not any poison, when a public person makes a statement like this, it creates confusion.”

I’m sure Gisele Bundchen just meant that she likes to use an organic line instead of the mainstream brands, but that’s not how it’s being spun.

It’s the first of a new generation of Bond films, and the ideas Mendes has push the film into darker territory where the characters are modern, mature and challenging,’

Well, I have to admit Ralph certainly knows how to get into character. The way he plays Lord Voldemort in ‘Harry Potter‘ is memorable to say the LEAST.

Okay… so first Kim Kardashian actually posed for the W Magazine photos wearing only body paint.

Then she was in tears on ‘Kourtney & Kim Take New York’ because she says they were more revealing than she expected. Then W Magazine responded, calling the pictures “artistic.”
And now Kim loves the photos.

“Looking back, I love the photos,” she told Us… “W Magazine is iconic so I’m really happy that I did it and that those are the photos.”

So why the tears in the first place?

“It’s just that that’s not what I thought they were going to be,” she explained. “Obviously I’m comfortable posing nude — I’ve done that before, and I did that then for the magazine. But that’s probably not the direction I would’ve wanted to go if I thought that was going to be the case.”

I’m confused. How could she NOT think that was going to be the case? She stepped out in front of the camera wearing nothing but body paint!

Well, I’m glad Kim feels better about it now. I can’t imagine having pictures of myself that I disliked circulating in the public. Another day, another news story .
